Q: I currently have carpet, tile, vinyl, or laminate covering my hardwood floors?
A: We will remove and dispose of any flooring materials that are currently covering your hardwood floors. We will also prep the floor, and if needed we will repair damaged or exposed hardwood floors. Some customers prefer to do this work themselves and others prefer that we do this work.
Q: We have pet and/or water stains?
A: Water and pet stains are usually a black in color. We recommend that you replace the damaged boards by weaving in new boards. If the stains are not too deep you could choose a darker stain to blend the stained boards in with the entire space. These processes can add an additional cost to the job for labor and materials.
Q: I would like to add an additional section to a current hardwood floor, is that possible?
A: Yes. In most cases we can weave new flooring, of the same grade and species, in with an existing floor.
Q: Do I need to move all of my furniture?
A: Yes.
Q: Is there a lot of dust?
A: There will be some dust. We do use a dust extraction system that vacuums the dust into a larger containment system, but that only takes care of 90% - 95% of the dust.
Q: My floors are gapping or cupping. What's going on?
A: For best results, keep the relative humidity in your home between 40% and 60%.
Heating Season (Dry Conditions) Use of a humidifier is recommended to prevent excessive shrinkage in hardwood floors, which causes gaps between the boards, due to low humidity levels. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to create very dry conditions.
Non-Heating Season (Humid and Wet Conditions) To prevent excessive expansion, cupping and peaking of the floor, which could lead to cracking and checking of the wood finish, maintain proper humidity levels with the use of an air conditioner or dehumidifier. Immediately wipe up spills and wet areas to avoid excessive exposure to water.
